Who is Awkwafina?
Awkwafina is the professional name of Nora Lum who is a rapper, comedian and actress from America. 2012 is when she started to gain fame at a very high rate through her rap song called My Vag which was popular on Youtube.
Then she released her debut album Yellow Ranger in 2014, and again visible on the MTV comedy series Girl Code during the year 2014-2015. Through her comedies which were her supporting roles in the comedies Neighbor 2, Sorority Rising 2016, Ocean’s 8, Baffling Rich Asians 2018 and Jumanji The Next Level 2019.
2019, she had a starring role as a grieving young woman in The Farewell which made her win a Golden Globe Award. The father immigrated to the United States in the 1940s and started a Cantonese restaurant Lum’s in Flushing Queens, one of the neighborhood’s first Chinese restaurants.
The mother was a painter who immigrated with her family to the US from South Korea in the year 1972. The mother died due to pulmonary hypertension in the year 1992 when Nora was four years old. Nora was raised with a single parent and paternal grandparents she was mostly close to her grandmother Powah Lum.

She stars in the Comedy Central series Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens from 2022 till now, which she co-created, wrote and executive produced. In 2019, she starred in the movie The Farewell, directed by Lulu Wang. The film received critical achievements and she played the lead character of Billi, a writer who visits her ill grandmother in China.
The film made her earned a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. This made her the first person of Asian descent to win a Golden Globe Award in any leading character film category, after being only the sixth woman of Asian descent to be nominated as the lead actress in a musical or comedy category. In still in that year, she starred as avatar Ming Fleetfoot in the film Jumanji: The Next Level, which turned out to be a commercial success.
